OXFORD, Ohio - Several RedHawk men's swimmers competed at the Speedo Championships Series Central Sectional meet held at Indiana University in Bloomington, Ind., last weekend, earning a fifth-place finish as the "RedHawk Aquatics" team. Thirty-six teams, made up of swimmers with an alma mater or other swim club in common, were able to score points, with the Miami-based squad racking up 193. In addition to the eight members of the RedHawk Aquatics squad, junior David Hine (Crescent Springs, Ky./Covington Catholic) competed for the Cincinnati Marlins, senior John Grubb (Centerville, Ohio/Centerville) swam for the Dayton Raiders, sophomore Mike Donohoe (Columbus, Ohio/Bishop Watterson) competed for the Greater Columbus Swim Team, and incoming freshman Blake Norman (Greenwood, Ind./Center Grove) was part of the Center Grove Aquatic Club's team. Griffin Marshall (Dallas, Texas/Jesuit College Prep), a sophomore in the fall, won the meet's 200 breaststroke event in 2:25.84 in the long-course meter format. He also earned a silver medal in the 100 breast, finishing in 1:06.18. Teammate Jason Krasula (Perrysburg, Ohio/Perrysburg), a senior, also went after two events, competing in the 100 back (1:00.08, 5th) and the 200 back (2:11.24, 6th). Junior Scott Robson (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard South) earned a fourth-place finish in the 200 butterfly in 2:07.43, while sophomore Paul Ricard (Bowling Green, Ohio/Bowling Green) turned in an eighth-place finish in the 400 free in 4:15.13. Junior Pat Carroll (Toledo, Ohio/St. Francis DeSales) and Dustin Snow (Dublin, Ohio/St. Charles) also competed in individual events. The RedHawk Aquatics squad also competed in three relay events, as Marshall, Krasula, Robson and Ricard finished the 400 medley relay in 4:00.00, good for a silver medal. Robson and Ricard teamed with sophomore Andy Amyot (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) and Kes Aukstuolis (Hudson, Ohio/Sycamore), a Miami senior who plans to try out for the RedHawk squad in the fall, to finish fifth in the 400 free relay in 3:41.42. The team also entered a foursome in the 800 free relay, as Robson, Krasula, Ricard and Carroll teamed in that event. Miami's collegiate season begins in October and includes the MAC Championships at home in March.
