REDHAWKS COME IN SECOND: Eastern Michigan won its 25th MAC title since 1980 with 1,008 points to Miami's 771, Ball State's 568, Ohio's 465 and Buffalo's 263. Except for the first event, which Ohio won, the Eagles led wire-to-wire over the three days. It is the fifth time in the last six seasons that the RedHawks have finished runner-up.
DONOHUE WINS TWO GOLDS: Senior Peter Donohue won his second straight one-meter diving gold medal and the first three-meter gold of his career while being named the MAC Diver of the Year. He ended the meet as the only Miamian adorned with a gold medal
COACHES OF THE YEAR: Head Coach Pete Lindsay and Diving Coach Todd Spohn each won their respective Coach of the Year honors. It was the fifth career honor for Lindsay, first since 1999, and the second straight for Spohn, who has 10 overall.
MEDALISTS: Miami had 14 medal-winning performances at the MAC meet, with sophomores Griffin Marshall and Justin Marcy as well as junior Scott Robson and senior Peter Donohue winning two apiece. Junior divers Nick Kleinert and Zach Niehaus each medaled, as did four of Miami's five relay squads.
ALL-MAC: Ten of the 32 swimmers and divers honored with all-MAC plaudits wore the Red and White, with Scott Robson and Peter Donohue given First-Team honors. Sophomores Justin Marcy, Griffin Marshall, Andy Amyot, and Michael Donohoe, senior Jason Krasula, and juniors Brian O'Rourke and Pat Carroll were named to the second team.
STORYLINES:
1. ZONE DIVING: Junior Eric Teske represents Miami at the NCAA Zone C Diving competition this Friday and Saturday. Senior Peter Donohue also qualified, but has chosen to cap his diving career with the two gold medals and the MAC Diver of the Year honor he won last weekend at the conference championships.
