OXFORD, Ohio - Miami's men's swimming and diving team looks to do this weekend what the women's team did last weekend, albeit in a more conventional manner: win the Mid-American Conference Championship.

Eastern Michigan is the favorite to win its third consecutive conference crown, so the RedHawks will have to come up with some career performances March 7-9 at the Ohio University Aquatic Center in Athens, Ohio. Miami, which finished second in the MAC with a 7-1 conference mark, is seeking its seventh MAC crown and third under 17-year head coach Pete Lindsay.

Of the 20 events at the meet, Miami figures to have veritable title contenders in 12 of them. It is led by senior John Carroll (Toledo, Ohio/St. Francis), who has won six individual MAC championships in his career, three short of the Miami record. He has the top times this season in the conference in the 100 butterfly (49.98), 200 fly (1:48.13) and 400 individual medley (3:57.46).

Senior Eric DiSalle (Maumee, Ohio/St. Francis) will try to add to the two individual titles he took home at last year's championships. His 200 freestyle (1:40.04), 200 backstroke (1:50.57) and 200 IM (1:53.24) times all are second fastest this season in the MAC.

Looking to claim his first individual conference championship is junior Kelly Ball (Granger, Ind./Penn), whose 500 free clocking (4:23.89) leads the MAC, and whose 200 free time (1:40.77) is third behind Northern Illinois' Andras Schonek and DiSalle.

Two-time MAC Diver of the Year Dylan Nichols (Indianapolis, Ind./Pike) will defend his titles on both boards. One of his toughest his competitors also dons red and white - freshman Peter Donohue (Cincinnati, Ohio/Turpin), whose best one-meter score (304.80) rates first in the MAC and whose largest three-meter point total (296.55) is second behind Nichols' 326.10.

Several of Miami's relay teams also will be in the mix, including the 200 and 800 free and the 400 medley.

Preliminaries begin each day at 12 noon, with finals getting underway each night at 7 p.m.
