OXFORD, Ohio - Freshman Kyle Melling (Solon, Ohio/Solon) was named this week's Mid-American Conference Male Swimmer of the Week, the league office announced today. While it is Melling's first career honor, he is the fifth RedHawk honored this season.

At the Midwest Conference Classic, Melling posted a pair of third-place finishes for Miami. On the second day of action, Melling won the preliminaries of the 200 breaststroke, before taking third in the finals with a time of 2:12.77. On the meet's final day, he took third in the 400 individual medley, touching the wall in 4:14.39.

The Solon, Ohio, native joins teammates Scott Robson (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard South), Peter Donahue (Cincinnati, Ohio/Turpin), Andrew Keefe (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Xavier) and Paul Ricard (Bowling Green, Ohio/Bowling Green) as swimmer of the week honorees this season. Keefe (Nov. 3) and Donahue (Nov. 10) were selected in back-to-back weeks, while Ricard was honored two weeks later (Nov. 24) and Robson earned the award Feb. 3.

The RedHawks have the week off before traveling to Ypsilanti, Mich., for the 2004 MAC Championships, March 4-6.
