Miami Hosts Eastern Michigan Swimming Teams at Saturday's Senior Day

First events begin at 1 p.m. at Miami's Nixon Aquatic Center

OXFORD, Ohio - Miami University men's and women's swimming and diving teams face one of their most difficult challenges of the 2009-10 season this Saturday at 1 p.m., hosting talented squads from Eastern Michigan at MU's Nixon Aquatic Center.

It's Senior Day for Miami. Admission is free.

Coach Dave Jennings's RedHawks, the nation's top-ranked Mid-Major team and defending MAC champions, lost at Ohio last Saturday (167.5-132.5), so they're anxious to get back on the winning track.

Miami is 6-4 overall, 3-2 in MAC meets. EMU defeated Miami in Ypsilanti last season, 157-131, its second win in a row against the RedHawks. Miami has taken 25 of the 30 all-time meetings.

Six of Jennings's senior swimmers and their parents will be honored before the meet. The group includes Kelsey Anagnos (St. Louis, MO), Kasey Carpenter (Cinncinnati), Claire Fogarty (Kettering), Jenna Long (Yorktown, IN), Rachel Smith (Amsterdam, NY) and Allison Way (Omaha, NE).

EMU's women are ranked eighth in the CSCAA Mid-Major Division I Swimming & Diving Team Poll. They follow Miami, Boston University, Towson, Oakland, UW-Milwaukee, Florida Gulf Coast and Western Kentucky.

As the Eagles' women's coach, Peter Linn has helped the Eagles to two Mid-American Conference Championships while boasting a 46-17 overall record and a 32-12 MAC mark in now his sixth season.

This will be the first of two trips in less than four weeks to Oxford for Eastern. Miami will host the MAC Women's Swimming and Diving Championships from Feb. 24-27. For ticket information, call 513-529-HAWK (529-4295) or 1-866-MUHAWKS (1-866-684-2957).

Coach Pete Lindsay's men's team (3-5-1 overall, 0-3 MAC) faces the huge task of putting a halt to EMU's 52-meet MAC winning streak. The RedHawks have been winless against the Eagles in their last 13 match-ups.

Honored at Miami's Senior Day will be DAVE BROWN (Lake Orion, MI), MIKE CARROLL (Toledo), MATT GRUBB (Centerville), ROB JACKSON (Cincinnati) and Austin Kosier (Toledo). They'll all be joined by their parents in a pre-meet ceremony.

Eastern Michigan's men won twice last weekend, defeating Wayne State and Ball State, the latter which extended its MAC dual meet win streak to 52 consecutive meets. The Eagles won the first five events of the meet against Ball State en route to the 158-127 victory. EMU features Justin Griggs, named last week as the MAC Men's Swimmer of the Week.

Coach Peter Linn has been at the helm of EMU swimming and diving since the 1988 season, leading the Eagles to 18 of the past 21 MAC titles.
