OXFORD, Ohio - On the heels of a record-setting performance last weekend at Toledo, senior John Carroll (Toledo, Ohio/St. Francis) garnered the first weekly conference honor of the season for Miami's men's swimming and diving team as Tuesday he was named Mid-American Conference Men's Swimmer of the Week.
Performing in his hometown, Carroll put on quite a performance against the host Rockets and visiting Akron Zips. He outdistanced the competition in the 400 individual medley in 4:00.39, lowering the 5-year-old University of Toledo Recreation Center mark in the event by nearly seven seconds. Carroll kept it rolling in the 200 butterfly, winning it in 1:49.96, 1.17 seconds faster than the previous pool standard set in 1999. To cap off his stellar evening, Carroll swam the third leg of the RedHawks' first-place 400 medley relay, which finished in 3:28.18.
Miami won the meet handily, 149-94, to improve to 9-1 on the season and 4-0 in the MAC. Carroll and his teammates return to the water Feb. 2 at 1 p.m. when they take on Bowling Green and Ohio at the Falcons' Cooper Pool.
