Coming off of dual wins against Cincinnati, Miami University's men's and women's swimming and diving teams face off against Purdue this Saturday at 2 p.m. in West Lafayette, Ind.
Purdue's men's swimming and diving team heads into the meet with a 6-2 dual meet record, including a 181-119 win over Michigan State on Jan. 12. Purdue's women's team holds a 3-8 record in dual meets, but the Boilermakers recently defeated Michigan State 158.5-102.5.
Senior Paul Ricard had another outstanding performance winning the 1000 freestyle by over three seconds and the 500 freestyle in a battle against Cincinnati's Nathan Williams by only one tenth of a second. Freshman Darin Smith also added points for Miami in the 1000 freestyle with a third-place finish and a new personal-best time of 9:40.00. Junior diver Chris Heaton added first-place finishes in both the one- and three-meter dives.
The women's swimming and diving team started "Rivalry Week" with a decisive victory as well, defeating the Bearcats 152.5-86.5. The women's 200 medley relay team kicked off the meet with a first-place finish, followed closely by junior Jenn Flaherty's win in the 1000 freestyle. Junior Malarie Schmidt led Miami's 1-2-3 sweep of the 200 IM with a time of 2:10.10. Finally, the women sealed their lead over Cincinnati when freshman Miranda Kaltenborn beat her previous personal-best time by over five seconds in the 500 freestyle when she touched the wall in 5:05.44.
After their joint road trip to West Lafayette, Ind., the men's team travels to Buffalo and the women travel to rival Ohio on Saturday, Jan. 26. Both meets begin at 1 p.m.
