OXFORD, Ohio - Miami's men's swimming and diving squad ended its home invitational on a high note Sunday, finishing the three-day meet in second place, the team's highest finish of the weekend. The RedHawks moved from a fourth-place tie entering Saturday night to third place entering this evening's events.
Kenyon College won the meet by 646.5 points over the RedHawks, but Miami was not only able to hurdle opponents, but put some distance in between themselves and third-place Cleveland State. The Vikings finished with 1,154.5 points, 120 fewer than Miami's 1,274.5. Louisville (1,113), Johns Hopkins (964), Cincinnati (772) and Wheeling Jesuit (311) rounded out the field.
Junior David Hine (Crescent Springs, Ky./Covington Catholic) finished ninth in the 1650 Free (16:49.76) for Miami's highest finish in the night's opening event. Senior John Grubb (Centerville, Ohio/Centerville) followed that up with an A-final eighth-place finish in the 200 Back (1:55.59). Sophomore Justin Marcy (Daytona Beach, Fla./Fairfield-Ohio) turned in another A-final finish in the next event, the 100 Free, completing the sprint in a ninth-place 46.88.
Sophomore Michael Donohoe (Columbus, Ohio/Bishop Watterson) was Miami's top finisher in the 200 Fly, taking 10th in 1:55.69. Miami's men ended the night on a seventh-place 400 Free Relay performance turned in by Grubb, Marcy, senior Kestutis Aukstuolis (Hudson, Ohio/Sycamore) and junior Brian O'Rourke (Beverly Hills, Mich./Groves) in 3:12.19.
The team is off from competition until Dec. 31 at the Ed Kennedy Relays in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
