Results

OXFORD, Ohio - Miami University's men's and women's swimming & diving teams finished up day one of the Miami Invitational in good shape, as the women led their nine-team field, while the men remained in fourth. The Miami Invite heads into its second day tomorrow, Dec. 6, at the Corwin M. Nixon Aquatic Center.

Freshman Paul Ricard (Bowling Green, Ohio/Bowling Green) was the top individual finisher for the men, taking fourth place in the 500 freestyle finals, while senior Andrew Keefe (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Xavier) was the top finisher in the consolation heat of the 200 individual medley. Keefe's finals time would have put him in fourth place of the championship heat.

The RedHawks had a strong showing in the 400 medley relay, posting a second-place finish.

The women took advantage of a sparse one-meter diving field to jettison ahead of No. 13 Indiana in the standings. The Hoosiers led by 22 going into the final event of the day. Sophomore Christin Eberst (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) took top honors in the event, while senior Heidi Willemssen (Prior Lake, Minn./Lakeville) finished third. Marshall entered one diver, while Illinois, who did not enter a full team, had a pair of divers competing. Seven RedHawks rounded out the 10-person field.

Senior Amy Miranda (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart Academy) won the 500 freestyle to remain undefeated in the event on the season. The NCAA-qualifier hit the wall in 4:52.00. Sophomore Laura Armbruster (North Royalton, Ohio/North Royalton) took second in the finals of the 200 individual medley, while Katie Unger (Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead) also swam in the championship heat, finishing fifth. The Red and White also put relays in the third and fifth positions in the 200 freestyle relay to help pace the RedHawks in the pool.

Miami returns to action when day two of the 10th annual Miami Invitational gets underway tomorrow with preliminaries beginning at 9 a.m. The finals begin at 6 p.m. in the evening session.
