Miami's men's and women's swimming and diving teams opened the first day of the Miami Invitational with solid performances on both sides as the RedHawks battled against 23 other participating men's and women's teams.

Senior Katie Scott (St. Louis, Mo./Lindbergh) highlighted the night for the women when she led the RedHawks with her solid performance in the 1650-yard freestyle in which she finished eighth with a time of 17:32.12.

Freshman Katie Forster (Centerville, Ohio/Centerville), junior Amy Miranda (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart Academy, sophomore Cara Magee (Wauseon, Ohio/Wauseon), and senior Jackie Hiltman (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota West) opened the meet up with a fourth place finish in the 800-yard freestyle relay when they touched the wall in 7:42:30.

Sophomore Jason Krasula (Perrysburg, Ohio/Perrysburg) gave Miami a strong performance in the 1650-freestyle when he beat his lifetime best score by over 10 seconds to place 13th in 16:16.91.

In the fourth and final event of the evening, the Miami men's 800-yard freestyle team of senior Kelly Ball (Granger, Ind./Penn), freshman Brian O'Rourke (Beverly Hills, Michigan/Groves), freshman Aaron Wuensch (Allen, Texas/Plano East) and junior Andrew Keefe (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Xavier) finished fifth with a time of 6:51.32 and an exceptional opening leg by Ball which he swam in 1:39.55.

Kenyon College ended the first day of swimming by standing first on both the men's and women's sides. Miami stands at sixth for the women with 116 points and fourth for the men with 126 points.

 

 

Action continues tomorrow at 9 a.m. at the Corwin M. Nixon Aquatic Center for prelims. The Finals end Friday's events when they begin at 6 p.m. at the Corwin M. Nixon Aquatic Center. The same start times will apply for Saturday's swimming action also.
