OXFORD, Ohio - Miami's men's swmiming and diving team stands in third place after the second day of competition at the Miami Invitational at the Nixon Aquatic Center, the same place they were in last night before an adjustment to Friday's relay finals put Miami in a tie for fourth heading into Saturday's final. Meanwhile, two Miamians competed on the final day of the U.S. Open Championships in San Antonio, Texas.

The Miami men opened the night with a seventh-place finish in the 200 Medley Relay, courtesy of a 1:35.50 finish from senior John Grubb (Centerville, Ohio/Centerville), sophomores Andy Amyot (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) and Justin Marcy (Daytona Beach, Fla./Fairfield-Ohio), and freshman Theo Kuczek (Deerfield, Ill./Deerfield).

Freshman Blake Norman (Greenwood, Ind./Center Grove) was Miami's highest finisher in the 400 IM as he placed 14th in 4:18.67, and Marcy finished a team-best 13th in the 100 Fly in 51.62. Junior Brian O'Rourke (Beverly Hills, Mich./Groves) finished 14th in the 200 Free in 1:44.33 for Miami's high finish in that event.

Kuczek was an A-finalist in the 100 Breast, turning in Miami's top finish in the event in 59.10, while relaymate Grubb was the top Miamian in the night's final individual event, the 100 Back, which he finished in an 11th-place 53.35.

Junior Nick Kleinert (Rocky River, Ohio/St. Ignatius) had the top score of 302.65 in an all-Miami three-meter diving competition, and the RedHawks ended the night by placing their top team 13th in the 800 Free Relay. Freshmen Ryan McHugh (Sylvania, Ohio/St. Francis DeSales) and Sean McLaughlin (Northbrook, Ill./Loyola Academy) and juniors Pat Carroll (Toledo, Ohio/St. Francis DeSales) and Andrew O'Neill (Rockaway, N.J./Oratory Prep) finished the race in 7:30.87.

In Texas, sophomore Griffin Marshall (Dallas, Texas/Jesuit College Prep) finished 10th in the 200-meter Breast in 2:26.81. Alabama's Vladislav Polyakov won the race in 2:15.35. In the following race, junior Scott Robson (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard South) finished the 200-Meter Butterfly in 2:09.48, completing Miami's participation in the USA Swimming meet. Daniel Medwed of the Sharks Swim Team won the event in 2:01.03.

The Miami Invitational wraps up Sunday. Kenyon College leads the meet with 1,272.50 points, while Johns Hopkins is in second with 908 points, 44.5 ahead of the third-place RedHawks. Preliminary races begin at 9 a.m., with final races moved up to 4 p.m.
