OXFORD, Ohio - Miami's men stand in third place after the first day of the Miami Swimming and Diving Invitational at the Nixon Aquatic Center with 320 points. Johns Hopkins, with 378 points, is in second, and Kenyon College has the lead with 531 points. The meet runs through Sunday.
Miami's 200 Free Relay team of sophomores Justin Marcy (Daytona Beach, Fla./Fairfield, Ohio) and Andy Amyot (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) and freshmen Theo Kuczek (Deerfield, Ill./Deerfield) and Ryan McHugh (Sylvania, Ohio/St. Francis DeSales) finished second in 1:25.85, under three seconds behind a Cincinnati squad.
Individually, Miami's top finishers were sophomore Jamie Morris (Louisville, Ky./duPont Manual), who took 22nd in the 500 Free in 4:52.58, junior Brian O'Rourke (Beverly Hills, Mich./Groves), who finished 18th in the 200 IM in 2:00.47, and Amyot, who finished the 50 Free in a 12th-place 21.57.
Only RedHawks competed on the men's side in diving, with junior Zach Niehaus (Taylor Mill, Ky./Scott) earning 309.85 points. Miami closed the meet with the 400 Medley Relay, with the top Red and White team takeing seventh in 3:31.84.
On Day Two of the U.S. Open Championships in San Antonio, Texas, senior Jason Krasula (Perrysburg, Ohio/Perrysburg) finished 13th in the 100-Meter Backstroke in 1:00.11. Florida's Ryan Lochte won the race in 56.14. Teammate Scott Robson (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard South) did a time trial in the 100-Meter Butterfly, completing the race in 59.23. The meet continues through Saturday.
