MUNCIE, Ind. - Ball State won more of the battles on Saturday at Lewellen Pool, but the Miami men's swimming and diving team emerged victorious nonetheless--and by the thinnest of margins--in a 122-121 win over the Cardinals. Miami is now 2-0 in the MAC and 2-1 overall.
The RedHawks won six of the 13 events and Scott Robson (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard South) accounted for two of those victories as Miami eked out the win. Though Miami captured the first two events, as the 400 Medley Relay team of Jason Krasula (Perrysburg, Ohio/Perrysburg), Griffin Marshall (Dallas, Texas/Jesuit College Prep), Michael Donohoe (Columbus, Ohio/Bishop Watterson) and Justin Marcy (Daytona Beach, Fla./Fairfield-Ohio) finished the race in 3:30.15. Robson followed with a 1000 Free win in 9:44.23.
But Ball State won the enxt four events before Robson broke that string with a victory in the 200 Fly, finish in 1:57.84. Following that win, Miami and Ball State split the last six events as the RedHawks' total points overcame Ball State's advantage in first-place points for the win. Those three wins went to Andrew O'Neill (Rockaway, N.J./Oratory Prep) in the 200 Back in 1:56.00, Zach Niehaus (Taylor Mill, Ky./Scott) in the three-meter dive (293.40) and Marshall in the 200 Breast in 2:08.40.
The RedHawks swim again on Friday against Wright State and Saturday against Xavier and IUPUI. Both meets are at Miami University's Nixon Aquatics Center.
