WEST LAFAYETTE, Indiana -- Miami University’s Cameron Horner (Columbus) bounced back with flying colors from his performance a week ago at the Mid-American Conference meet by placing fourth in Friday afternoon’s NCAA Zone C three-meter competition at Purdue University.
The sophomore from Upper Arlington High School had a near-career best 383.55 score after the preliminary round, second only to Purdue’s JP Perez. Horner’s score of 382.25 in the finals gave him a combined score of 765.80, fourth-best behind Purdue’s David Boudia (849.70) and JP Perez (792.35), and Ohio State’s Ryan Jefferson (774.25).
Zone C, which consists of university teams from Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, Kentucky and Illinois, will send a combined total of nine one-meter, three-meter and platform divers to the NCAA Championships. Ohio State University will serve as the host for the 2010 men’s championships March 25-27 in Columbus, Ohio.
Miami sophomore JIMMY BERES (Columbus) placed eighth among 34 divers in the three-meter competition, scoring 359.70 in the finals for a total score of 709.95. RedHawk freshman Chris Hoppler (Germantown, MD) placed 21st (301.70) and freshman teammate MICHAEL GRAINGER (Cincinnati) finished 28th (243.00).
“We’re very pleased with Cameron’s performance,” said Miami Head Coach Pete Lindsay, “especially when you consider that he placed ninth at last week’s MAC meet. He looked consistent in virtually every dive and kept his head screwed on throughout the competition.”
All four Miami swimmers will be entered in the men’s one-meter diving competition Saturday afternoon.
In Friday's one-meter competition for women, Miami’s Corrine Bangs (Monument, CO) finished 45th.
