Final Stats

The Miami men's swimming and diving team ended their first day at the Mid-American Conference Championships tied with Toledo for second place behind Eastern Michigan. The RedHawks and Rockets both have 157 points while the Eagles lead with 316 points at Alumni Arena Natatorium in Buffalo, N.Y.

The RedHawks started the finals off well by placing fourth in the 200-yard freestyle relay. Senior Dave Bergan (Cincinnati, Ohio/Princeton), freshman Aaron Wuensch (Allen, Texas/Plano East), freshman Brian O'Rourke (Beverly Hills, Mich./Groves) and junior Andrew Keefe (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Xavier) combined for a time of 1:24.09.

Senior Kelly Ball (Granger, Ind./Penn) also scored for Miami when he placed fifth in the 500-yard freestyle relay with a time of 4:32.13 in the next race. Ball improved from his eighth place time in the prelims during the morning.

Sophomore Peter Donohue (Cincinnati, Ohio/Turpin) scored the highest for Miami on Thursday when he placed second in the one-meter diving event. Donohue had the top time in the prelims, but was edged out in the finals for second place with a score of 293.85.

Finally, sophomore Jason Krasula (Perrysburg, Ohio/Perrysburg) and junior Paul Jacob (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Xavier) combined with Keefe and Ball for third place in the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 1:47.82 to close the first day of competition.

The MAC Championships continue tomorrow with the preliminaries starting at noon and finals at 7:00 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday.
