YPSILANTI, Mich. - Thanks in part to Andrew Keefe's (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Xavier) second MAC Championship of the weekend, Miami University's men's swimming & diving moved from fourth into second place on day two of the 2004 MAC Championships in Ypsilanti. Host Eastern Michigan continues to hold its first-place lead with 642 points, ahead of the RedHawks with 425.
After winning the 50 freestyle last night, Keefe was victorious in the 200 free, finishing with a time of 1:38.51. Paul Ricard (Bowling Green, Ohio/Bowling Green) took top honors in the preliminaries, but took fourth in the finals in 1:40.14. Keefe and Ricard teamed with Scott Robson (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard South) and Jason Krasula (Perrysburg, Ohio/Perrysburg) to take second in the 800 free relay, completing the distance in 6:46.27. Miami's 200 medley relay also featured Keefe, as it took third place. The Cincinnati native was joined by John Grubb (Centerville, Ohio/Centerville), Griffin Marshall (Dallas, Texas/Jesuit College Prep) and Michael Donohoe (Columbus, Ohio/Bishop Watterson).
Miami put multiple swimmers in the championship heat of three other events. In the 100 backstroke Krasula took second ahead of Grubb in fifth place. Krasula posted a time of 50.98, as Grubb touched the wall in 52.24. Marshall took third in the 100 breaststroke with Paul Jacob (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Xavier) in eighth, as the duo posted times of 55.99 and 57.83, respectively. The 400 individual medley featured Robson and Pat Carroll (Toledo, Ohio/St. Francis DeSales) finishing together in fifth and sixth. Robson was the first RedHawk to finish at 4:03.22, as Carroll finished in 4:08.13.

The RedHawks benefited from three scorers in the top 10 of the 100 butterfly. Donohoe was the top finisher, taking seventh in 51.11, while Justin Marcy (Daytona Beach, Fla./Fairfield) won the consolation heat with a time of 51.00. Andy Uhlenberg (Rochester, Minn./John Marshall) took 10th.
The third and final day of the 2004 MAC Championships begins at noon with the day three preliminaries. Finals begin at 7 p.m., and includes the finals of the three-meter diving. Peter Donohue (Cincinnati, Ohio/Turpin) won the one-meter event on Thursday.
