OXFORD, Ohio - The RedHawk men's swimming and diving team remains in second place with one day left at the Mid-American Conference Championships at the Nixon Aquatic Center in Oxford. Eastern Michigan leads the meet with 646 points to Miami's 505, with Ball State (372), Ohio (310) and Buffalo (169) rounding out the field.

Miami started the night with a second-place finish in the 200 Medley Relay, widening EMU's lead from 49 to 55 points at 329-274. Senior Jason Krasula (Perrysburg, Ohio/Perrysburg) teamed with sophomores Justin Marcy (Daytona Beach, Fla./Fairfield-Ohio), Griffin Marshall (Dallas, Texas/Jesuit College Prep) and Andy Amyot (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) to finish in 1:32.35 to the EMU foursome's 1:30.41.

That preceeded the 400 IM, which featured a one-two-three EMU sweep. Miami's swimmers placed fourth and fifth, with juniors Scott Robson (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard South) (4:01.94) and Pat Carroll (Toledo, Ohio/St. Francis DeSales) (4:03.82) occupying those spots, respectively. With the finish, EMU widened its lead to 79 points at 382-303.

Miami placed three swimmers in the "A" final in the 100 Fly, with Marcy's third-place finish in 49.83 leading the way. EMU placed four swimmers in the lead heat to widen its lead to 90 points at 438-348.

Brian O'Rourke (Beverly Hills, Mich./Groves) represented Miami in the 200 Free, placing seventh in 1:42.48. But the Eagles got four swimmers in the "A" final once again, pushing their lead into triple digits at 127 points.

In the 100 Breast, it was Miami's turn to take four of the eight spots in the top heat, with Marshall's silver-medal finish leading the way in 56.26. Even with four members of the Red and White in the "A" final, Miami chipped just one point off the EMU advantage to 126 as the Eagles placed three of the top five swimmers.

Miami and Eastern Michigan both placed three in the 100 Back, but EMU grew its lead to 133 by taking the top two spots in the event. Junior Andrew O'Neill (Rockaway, N.J./Oratory Prep) was Miami's top finisher, taking fifth in 50.98.

Miami finished third in the night-closing 800 Free Relay in 6:50.15. Robson, O'Rourke, Carroll and sophomore Jamie Morris (Louisville, Ky./duPont Manual) combined for 32 points in the event, which gave EMU its final margin of the night of 141 points.

The meet wraps up Saturday with preliminary races at noon and finals at 7 p.m.
