BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Miami's men's and women's swimming teams beat Bowling Green and Ohio Saturday afternoon at the Falcons' Cooper Pool, upping their Mid-American Conference records to 6-0. The two squads combined to win 17 of the meet's 26 events, with the men claiming nine first-place finishes and the women eight.
The men beat host Bowling Green, 178-65, and Ohio, 150-93, while the women whipped the Falcons, 196-47, and squeaked by the Bobcats, conference champions the last two years, 129-114. The men's overall mark is 11-1 while the women's is 12-1.
For the women, sophomore Amy Miranda (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart Academy) took the top spot in the 500 freestyle, in a time of 5:00.12, and 1,650 free, in 17:15.63. Miami had the sprint free events covered as well, as senior Kelly Janura (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) won the 50 and 100 free in 24.14 and 52.48, respectively. She also led off the first-place 200 free relay team, which included junior Kristen Sivard (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Coffman), junior Jackie Hiltman ( West Chester, Ohio/Lakota West), and senior Colleen Rambasek (Kettering, Ohio/Alter) and touched the wall in 1:37.13. The other individual winner for the RedHawk women was sophomore Heidi Willemssen (Prior Lake, Minn./Lakeville), who dove to victory in the one-meter, with a score of 250.55, and the three-meter, totaling 251.05 points.
The men spread their successes around a little more, with eight swimmers winning one event apiece. In the freestyle events, sophomore Andrew Keefe (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Xavier) took first in the 100, winning with a 47.16 clocking, senior Eric DiSalle (Maumee, Ohio/St. Francis) the 200, reaching the deck in 1:42.12, sophomore David Fraas (Ashland, Ohio/St. Francis) the 500, checking in with a 4:43.72, and junior Andy Norr (Schoolcraft, Mich./Portage Central) the 1,650, with a time of 16:24.68. Along with senior John Carroll (Toledo, Ohio/St. Francis) and sophomore Ken Sensenbrenner (Champaign, Ill./Central, Fraas and DiSalle also made up half of the first -place 200 free relay team, which claimed victory in 1:26.25.

Just as with the women, the men swept the diving competitions, but staying true to form, a different man won on each board. Senior Dylan Nichols (Indianapolis, Ind./Pike) ran away with the one-meter, amassing 280.10 points, and freshman Peter Donohue (Cincinnati, Ohio/Turpin) edged Nichols in the three-meter, 267.50-266.25.
Both teams conclude their MAC schedule next Saturday when they travel to Eastern Michigan to take on the Eagles and visiting Buffalo.
