GAMBIER, Ohio - Despite a pair of individual victories from junior Paul Ricard and sophomore Chris Heaton, the Miami University men's swimming and diving team (3-5; 3-0 MAC) narrowly dropped a non-conference dual meet to Kenyon College, 158-156. Miami won nine of the 18 events contested Friday night, including each of the final three events, but it could not make up enough ground on Kenyon in the two-point loss.

Ricard notched top swimming finishes in the 200 butterfly (1:52.21) and 500 freestyle (4:39.02), and Heaton -- the reigning Mid-American Conference Swimming and Diving Athlete of the Week -- swept the boards with first-place scores in the 1-meter (353.70) and 3-meter (284.08) dives. For Ricard, it was the fourth time this season he has won two swimming events at a single meet, and for Heaton, it was his fifth sweep of the diving events.

Kenyon jumped out to an early lead, winning the first five swimming events and placing the top two finishers in the 1,000 freestyle, 200 freestyle and 100 backstroke. Senior Griffin Marshall broke Kenyon's stranglehold with a second-place finish in the 100 breaststroke (58.62) before Ricard notched Miami's first win of the meet in the 200 butterfly.

After Kenyon answered with another victory in the 50 freestyle, Miami ripped off four straight wins, beginning with sophomore Nick DuPuis' top finish in the 200 individual medley (1:57.25). Heaton then followed with his top finish in the 1-meter dive, and junior Ryan McHugh and freshman Austin Kosier added back-to-back wins in the 100 freestyle (46.53) and 200 backstroke (1:54.53), respectively.

Ricard sandwiched his 500 freestyle victory in between a pair of Kenyon wins in the 200 breaststroke and 100 butterfly, and Miami closed the meet with top finishes in the final three events. Heaton sparked Miami's comeback with his top score on the 3-meter board, and junior Chase Mortimer completed a Miami sweep of the medley events with his first-place time in the 400 individual medley (4:10.39). The Red and White ended with its first-place clocking in the 400 freestyle relay (3:07.58), but its rally fell just two points short.

Miami competes in its final non-conference dual meet of the season Saturday when it travels to Cleveland State. The Vikings and RedHawks hit the pool at 2 p.m.
