OXFORD, Ohio - Celebrating Senior Night in style, Miami's men's and women's swimming and diving teams both defeated one of the great dynasties in all of sports, Kenyon College, winning by scores of 119-102 and 150-90, respectively, Saturday night at the Corwin M. Nixon Aquatic Center.

Before the competition got underway, head women's coach Dave Jennings introduced this year's senior class, which includes Tara Jacobson (Barrington Hills, Ill./St. Bonaventure), Kelly Janura (Barrington, Ill./Barrington), Hillary Mason (Cedar Falls, Iowa/Cedar Falls), Emily Nayes (Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie), Colleen Rambasek (Kettering, Ohio/Alter), Shannon Thomas (Hamilton, Ohio/Cincinnati Country Day) and Megan Wyatt (Barrington, R.I./Barrington).

Midway through the meet, head men's coach Pete Lindsay presented the seniors on his team. They are John Carroll (Toledo, Ohio/St. Francis), Adam Clementi (Palatine, Ill./St. Viator), Eric DiSalle (Maumee, Ohio/St. Francis), Jason Finck (Villa Hills, Ky./Beechwood), Ryan Gandre (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Coffman), Kevin Mulgrew (Malden, Mass./Malden Catholic), Dylan Nichols (Indianapolis, Ind./Pike), Mark Piersma (Huntsville, Ala./Grisson) and Andy Yeager (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington).

As a sign that bodes well for the future, of the six women (8-1, 2-0 MAC) to win an event, Nayes was the only senior. She took the top prize in the 200 individual medley (2:06.33) and 200 backstroke (2:09.22). Sophomore Amy Miranda (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart Academy) ran away with the 1,650 free, winning in a time of 17:09.96, which was more than 18 seconds ahead of the runner-up and is the fastest time this season in the MAC by nearly nine seconds.

Other female winners include sophomore Heidi Willemssen (Prior Lake, Minn./Lakeville), in three-meter diving (270.30), freshman Michelle Reynolds (Wyoming, Ohio/Wyoming), in the the 200 butterfly (2:09.23), freshman Cara Magee (Wauseon, Ohio/Wauseon), in the 500 free (5:06.20), and freshman Sara Gonso (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central), in one-meter diving (278.25). The 400 medley relay team of freshman Trisha Lamb (Oregon, Ohio/Notre Dame Academy), Nayes, Reynolds and junior Jackie Hiltman (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota West) also finished first, with a 3:56.48 clocking.

Four seniors on the men's team went out with a bang. In the 1,000 free, Mulgrew touched out the Lords' Michael Bonomo, 9:35.15 to 9:35.64, while DiSalle took the top spot in the 200 IM (1:53.95), Carroll in the 200 fly (1:50.71) and Nichols in one-meter diving (296.17).

Also for the men (7-1, 2-0 MAC), junior Kelly Ball (Granger, Ind./Penn) reached the deck first in the 500 free (4:38.43) and sophomore David Fraas (Ashland, Ohio/St. Francis) won a close one over Leandro Monteiro in the 200 free, beating him 1:43.14 to 1:43.36.

The men return to the pool at 6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 25 at Toledo, while the women go to Toledo the next day for a 1 p.m. meet that also includes Akron.
