Brown Leads Miami's Men's Swimmers Past Buffalo

OXFORD, Ohio - Miami junior freestyler DAVE BROWN (Lake Orion, MI) won two individual races and anchored a winning relay unit to pace the men's swimming and diving team past Buffalo, 131-101, at MU's Nixon Aquatic Center.
It was Coach Pete Lindsay's team's third dual meet victory of 2008-09.
Brown captured both the 100- and 200-yard freestyle events in respective times of :47.22 and 1:43.75. He, sophomore Mark Healey (Jenison, MI), senior Zac Siegel (Wilmette, IL) and senior Nick DuPuis (Atlanta, GA) won the 400 freestyle relay race with a season-best clocking of 3:08.66.
Saturday's double winners included senior ANDY NEFF (Chesterland, OH), MIKE CARROLL (Toledo) and DuPuis. Neff, Carroll , freshman Chris Gunnels (Chapel Hill, NC) and junior ROB JACKSON (Cincinnati) were all members of the winning 400 medley relay. Neff also won the 50 freestyle (season-best :21.44), Carroll touched first in the 200 breaststroke (season-best 2:09.90) and DuPuis won the 200 butterfly (season-best 1:54.73).
Sophomore DARRIN SMITH (Bossier City, LA) captured the 1000 freestyle in a lifetime-best time of 9:37.15.
Other season-bests recorded by Miami swimmers included DuPuis and Justin Dankovich in the 200 free, Carroll in the 200 breaststroke, and Gunnels, Jason Bank, Jason Hass and Trevor Tilly in the 400 individual medley.
Miami's men don't compete again until January 31 when they travel to Eastern Michigan.
