OXFORD, Ohio -- The Miami hockey program set a school record without even playing Monday when it maintained its No. 1 ranking for an 11th straight week. The RedHawks held the top spot for 10 weeks -- though not consecutively -- during the 2007-08 season.
Miami, 13-2-5 heading into the holiday break, received 48 of 50 first-place votes in the USCHO.com/CBS College Sports poll. The RedHawks were listed second on the other two ballots for a total of 998 points. It was the 10th straight week at No. 1 for the RedHawks, who started the year fourth in the preseason poll.
In the USAToday/USA Hockey Magazine poll, the RedHawks strengthened their hold on No. 1, a position they have held for 11 straight weeks, including the preseason. On Monday, Miami was listed first on 33 ballots and second on another for 509 total points.
Denver received the other three combined first-place votes to ranks second in both polls. Positions three through five were also similar with Colorado College, Cornell and Boston College following the Pioneers.
The RedHawks also returned to No. 1 in the INCH power ratings after a two-week absence. The RedHawks held the top spot until Nov. 30 when they dropped to No. 3. Last week the moved up one notch to No. 2.
The next polls will be released on Jan. 4, after the conclusion of holiday tournament play. Miami returns to the ice Jan. 8-10 for a home-and-home series against Robert Morris.
