OXFORD, Ohio -- Miami's Cody Reichard has been named National Player of the Week by Inside College Hockey, the website announced today. Reichard earned CCHA Goaltender of the Week honors yesterday.
Reichard was in goal for both of Miami's wins at then-No. 4 Michigan this past weekend. The 3-1 and 5-1 decisions marked the first time an opponent had swept the Wolverines in Yost Ice Arena since Oct. 26-27, 2001, a span of 45 series.
The Celina, Ohio, native registered a .959 save percentage with 27 stops Friday and 20 more on Saturday. The sophomore posted a 1.00 goals-against average, and combined with the defense to hold Michigan to just one power-play goal in 14 opportunities on the weekend.
Other players under consideration were Brad Hunt (Bemidji State), Jeff Larson (Connecticut), Chase Polacek (Rensselaer), Carl Sneep (Boston College) and Billy Sweatt (Colorado College).
Miami returns home this weekend for a CCHA series against Ferris State on Friday night. Both games will be televised by ONN, with the opener also airing live on the NHL Network.
