FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. -- Sophomore defensemen Matt Tomassoni has been named CCHA Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced today. He is the first awardwinner of the year for the RedHawks.
A native of Carol Stream, Ill., Tomassoni netted his first career goal during Friday night's 6-3 win over New Hampshire. His slapshot from the point put Miami up 2-1 in the first period. The next night, the sophomore added to his total, converting a similar shot in a 5-5 tie with the Wildcats.
Tomassoni finished the weekend with a +4 rating over the two contests.
The other CCHA awards went to Western Michigan's J.J. Crew (Offensive), Nebraska-Omaha's John Faulkner (Goaltender) and Domenic Monardo of Lake Superior State (Rookie).
