OXFORD - Following a two-game sweep of highly ranked Vermont, Miami University's ice hockey team has risen to No. 2 in the latest rankings by both USCHO.com/CSTV and USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine.

Coach Enrico Blasi's RedHawks were the only team other than top-ranked North Dakota to garner first-place votes in the Oct. 15 ratings.

It's the highest ranking Miami hockey has enjoyed since March 13, 2006 when both polls had the RedHawks at No. 2. The only time MU was ranked No. 1 in the polls came on Jan. 30, 2006.

"It's nice to see our name up there," said Blasi, "This high ranking just reminds us that we need to be ready to play and continue to improve every day. For us, nothing's changed. We'll just do what we do, and try to get better every day."

Miami travels to Columbus on Friday, Oct. 19, at 7:05 p.m. to play Ohio State at Value City Arena. The Buckeyes and the RedHawks will meet each other for a second game on Sunday, Oct. 21, at 6:05 p.m. at the Miami's Goggin Ice Center.
