OXFORD, Ohio - The Central Collegiate Hockey Association, Fox Sports Net, RBK, the Detroit Red Wings, Tim Horton’s and Perani's Hockey World hosted a "Have Fun, Play Hockey" clinic at the Goggin Ice Center, on Tuesday night.
The free clinic was open to boys and girls ages 5-11 that had never played organized hockey. The kids were guided in every aspect of the game by the Miami University ice hockey team. The RedHawks ran passing drills, skating drills and even showed the kids how to celebrate following a goal. The event also included a visit from “Swoop”, the RedHawks mascot.
"It was a great event for our program and our community. We had young kids experience hockey for the first time and absolutely fell in love with the game," Miami head coach Enrico Blasi said. "Our youth hockey programs saw a considerable jump in participation a year ago. The ‘Have Fun, Play Hockey’ program is a great way to promote and grow the game in local communities. At Miami we are proud to give back to the community and this clinic is rewarding for everyone involved."
Miami opens regular season play on Friday at Ohio State and plays its regular-season home opener at 7:05 p.m. on Saturday against the Buckeyes.
