OXFORD, Ohio - Miami University ice hockey standout Nate Davis (Sr., Rocky River, Ohio) has been named to the College Hockey News's 2007 Preseason All-Star Team.

The high-scoring forward was a Hobey Baker finalist a year ago and is one of the favorites to win the award in 2007-08.

Dave Starman, the lead color analyst for College Sports Television's Game of the Week package, calls Davis a model team player.

"I really like his hockey sense, and he competes hard, " said Starman. "Whoever he plays with, Nate Davis just make everybody else better, because he backs guys up and steps up when he has to."

Joining Davis on the All-CCHA first-team are Michigan forward Kevin Porter, North Dakota defenseman Taylor Chorney, Boston University defenseman Matt Gilroy, and Michigan State goaltender Jeff Lerg.

Three other RedHawk hockey stars--forward Ryan Jones (Sr., Chatham, Ont.), defenseman Alec Martinez (Rochester, MI) and goaltender Jeff Zatkoff (Chesterfield, MI)--are listed by CHN as "Players to Watch."

Coach Enrico Blasi's team opens its season this Saturday at Goggin Ice Arena with a 7:05 p.m. exhibition game against Waterloo.

The RedHawks' regular season begins at home on Oct. 12-13 with a two-game series vs. Vermont.
