OXFORD, Ohio - Miami University's ice hockey team, the 2009 NCAA Runner-up, was celebrated Saturday night on campus at the Shriver Center, and the top individual prize went to sophomore forward Carter Camper, named the winner of the Gary DeLonge Most Valuable Player award.
The second-team All-American from Rocky River, Ohio also won the award as Miami's most outstanding offensive player. Camper led the 2008-09 RedHawks with 20 goals and 22 assists.
Other honors went to junior Gary Steffes, winning of the Blue Line Club Award; freshman goalies Connor Knapp and Cody Reichard, who shared the Rookie of the Year Award; senior Kevin Roeder, named the team's outstanding defensive player; junior Brandon Smith, winner of the Steve Cady Most Improved Player Award; and senior captain Brian Kaufman, who won the Berry Family Outstanding Senior Award.
Seniors Michael Findorff, Bill Loupee, Alexandre Lacombe, Justin Mercier, Roeder and Kaufman all won the Scholar-Athlete Award for accumulating a grade-point average of 3.0 or better.
The Jim Grant "7th Man" Award went to assistant athletic director and ice hockey administrator Josh Fenton.
Miami's support group, the Blue Line Club, sponsored the annual awards banquet.
