COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - USA Hockey named the first 18 players to the United States Men's National Team Tuesday (April 16), and Miami University junior forward Nathan Davis was one of two collegians tabbed to the national squad. The team will compete at the 2007 International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) World Championship in Moscow, Russia, April 27-May 13.

A Hobey Baker finalist and second-team RBK/AHCA West All-American, Davis led the RedHawks with 50 points during the 2006-07 season, which included career highs in goals (21) and assists (29). Named to the Central Collegiate Hockey Association's all-league second team and tabbed as the CCHA's best defensive forward, Davis had 15 multi-point games and tallied at least one point in 20 of the RedHawks' 24 wins. Other highlights of Davis' junior season were a three-goal performance in a win at Michigan (Oct. 20) and a career-high five-point game against Northern Michigan (Nov. 3).

"We're proud of him and excited for him," Miami head coach Enrico Blasi said. "Anytime you represent your country it's a big deal, and this honor is a positive reflection on Nate as a player and the Miami Hockey Program."

Davis, who led the RedHawks to their second straight 20-win season and first NCAA Tournament win in program history, joins goaltender Cory Schneider (Boston College) as the only current collegians to make the preliminary national team roster. Davis also is one of 11 players on the squad who are under the age of 25.

"We've got a good mix of players with World Championship experience and younger players who will likely be a part of our program for years to come," said Jim Johannson, senior director of hockey operations for USA Hockey. "Our National Team Advisory Group has done an outstanding job in selecting players who we feel will excel in international competition."

The 2007 IIHF World Championship will be Davis' second opportunity to represent the United States in international competition, as he also served as assistant captain for Team USA at the 2006 IIHF World Junior Championship in British Columbia.

Team USA will play an exhibition game against Sweden at Globe Arena in Stockholm on April 25 at 7 p.m. (local time)/1 p.m. (EDT) before beginning competition in the IIHF World Championship on April 27 at 4:15 p.m. (local time)/8:15 a.m. (EDT) against Austria. The United States will play two additional preliminary-round games against Belarus (April 29) and the Czech Republic (May 1) before the qualification round begins.

Coverage of the tournament is available on the World Championship Sports Network (www.wcsn.com ), with live streaming video available for a subscription fee.
