FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. -- Miami freshman Joe Hartman has been named to the 2009-10 CCHA All-Rookie Team, the league office announced today. Voting was conducted among the head coaches of the 12 members.

Hartman, a native of St. Cloud, Minn., played in 35 of 36 games during his initial collegiate season, registering 14 points (six goals, eight assists). He tallied two short-handed goals to rank tied for fifth in the country, one of which was the game-winner against Notre Dame on Dec. 4. Hartman earned multiple points on three occasions this year, registering a goal and an assist at New Hampshire (Oct. 17) and vs. Lake Superior State (Feb. 6) and dishing out a pair of helpers vs. Nebraska-Omaha on Feb. 19.

The defenseman was fourth on the team in plus-minus with a +20 rating and helped the RedHawks lead the nation in scoring defense at 1.72 goals per game.

The complete team included:

Andy Taranto, Forward, Alaska Fairbanks, Chicago, Ill.
Terry Broadhurst, Forward, Nebraska-Omaha, Orland Park, Ill.
Chris Brown, Forward, Michigan, Flower Mound, Texas
Torey Krug, Defenseman, Michigan State, Livonia, Mich.
Joe Hartman, Defenseman, Miami, St. Cloud, Minn.
Mike Johnson, Goaltender, Notre Dame, Verona, Wis.

Miami's Curtis McKenzie was among nine players receiving honorable mention. The others included Nik Yaremchuk (Alaska), Jordan Samuels-Thomas (Bowling Green), Derek Grant (Michigan State), Riley Sheahan (Notre Dame), Zach Trotman (Lake Superior State), Kyle Follmer (Northern Michigan), Devon Krogh (Ohio State) and John Faulkner (Nebraska-Omaha).

The selections marked the first time since 1997 and just the second time ever that six different CCHA schools had one student-athlete named to the team. It will be honored at the 2010 CCHA Awards on Thursday, March 18, at the Fox Theatre in Detroit.

Miami returns to action this week in the second round of the CCHA Tournament. The top-seeded RedHawks host No. 8 Ohio State in a best-of-three series Friday to Sunday at Steve Cady Arena. Faceoff times are 7:35 p.m., 7:05 p.m. and 7:05 p.m. if necessary. For ticket information, call the Miami Athletic Ticket Office at 513-529-HAWK.
