COLUMBUS, Ohio - Tommy Wingels scored four times and added an assist to lead No. 1 Miami to a 6-0 victory over Ohio State Friday night at Value City Arena in the front end of a home-and-home weekend series. Cody Reichard stopped 17 shots for his second consecutive shutout and Carter Camper earned the 100th point of his career on Wingels' second goal.

Miami (12-2-5, 9-1-3-1 CCHA) excelled on special teams, scoring on four out of six power plays and killing off all six penalties they faced. The RedHawks have now stopped 23 consecutive opponents' power plays, dating back to the third period of the Nov. 28 game at North Dakota. The Red and White also set a team record by extending the opponents' scoreless streak to 207:14 minutes.

On the RedHawks' second power play of the game, Ohio State withstood the first Miami attack and cleared the puck into the Miami zone, but Camper picked up the loose puck and passed ahead to McKenzie as he crossed the blue line. McKenzie and Wingels got behind the Buckeyes' defense with only one defender to beat. McKenzie carried it in himself up the left side with Wingels trailing to his right, and fired a wrist shot that the Ohio State goaltender blocked right to Wingels who put it away at 12:47 of the first period to put the RedHawks up 1-0.

Miami dodged Ohio State's best scoring opportunity with 2:42 remaining in the period as Ohio State broke through the Miami defense, sending a perfectly placed one-timer across the ice, but Reichard made a sliding kick-save as he moved to his left, quickly closing the door on the Buckeyes' best scoring opportunity of the period. The RedHawks set the record for scoreless streak just over a minute later at the 1:25 mark.

The lead was increased to 2-0 at the 2:49 mark of the second period when Wingels equalled his career high for goals. Cameron Schilling picked up a loose puck after the faceoff and moved back to the blue line to set up the power play offense. He passed to the left to Camper, who took a long shot toward the traffic in front of the net. His shot was partially deflected and picked up just in front of the goal by Curtis McKenzie, who was able to push the puck to the left side for Wingels. Camper's assist was the 100th point of his career and McKenzie earned his ninth assist of the year.

Wingels earned the first hat-trick of his career at 3:14 of the third period while Miami was on the power play. Cannone passed deep into the Ohio State zone to McKenzie, who passed back to Wingels in the left faceoff circle where he fired a wrister that hit the crossbar and bounced into the goal.

Just 1:40 later, Cannone stole the puck in left corner of the Ohio State zone and sent a centering pass to a wide-open Wingels, who finished off the one-timer at 5:40 of the third period for his fourth goal of the game. With the goal, Wingels became the first RedHawk with four goals in a game since Ryan Jones did it Nov. 2, 2007 against Northern Michigan. The outburst was also a school record for consecutive goals by an individual(four), topping a pair of RedHawks who previously had three.

At 10:30 of the final period, Wingels returned the favor, setting up Cannone for a power play goal from left side of the net. Camper earned the second assist. The goal was the fourth consecutive successful power play of the game for the RedHawks.

Jarod Palmer added the final tally for the RedHawks at 15:49 when he took a centering pass from Andy Miele and beat the Ohio State goaltender top-shelf.

Miami battered the Buckeye goaltender with 33 shots on goal in game while the defense limited Ohio State to just 17.

The RedHawks are back in action Saturday at 7:05 p.m. as the series moves to Steve Cady Arena in Oxford for the weekend finale.
