BURLINGTON, Vt.- Miami battled hard for 60 minutes but came up short against Vermont in Burlington, Vt., 4-3, in Gutterson Fieldhouse.
Justin Milo scored the game winner at 15:40 of the third period. Milo was assisted by Jack Downing and Peter Lenes. The loss is Miami's first in the month of October since Oct. 19, 2006.
The RedHawks fell behind early when Viktor Stalberg scored 18 seconds into the game on assists from Dean Strong and Corey Carlson. Miami continued to take advantage on the power play as Carter Camper tied the game with a goal at 6:53 of the first period on assists from Alexandre Lacombe and Brian Kaufman. Miami would take the lead when Tommy Wingels found the net for the first time this season on dishes from Camper and Justin Mercier.
Miami controlled action early in the second period but a quick blitz by Catamounts would give Vermont the lead heading into the final period. Peter Lenes scored his first goal of the season and 1:57 later Brayden Irwin gave Vermont the lead. Irwin's goal came off assists from Colin Vock and Dan Lawson.
Pat Cannone recorded his seventh-point in two games as he tied the game 3-3 in the third. Cannone was assisted by Kaufman and Will Weber. The assist was Weber's first career point.
For the game Miami went 2-6 on the power play and held Vermont to 0-3. Vermont outshot the RedHawks 28-23 for the game. Cody Reichard posted 24 saves on the night including 11 in the second period.
The No. 7 RedHawks and the No. 17 Catamounts will be back in action tomorrow in Gutterson Fieldhouse at 7:05 p.m.
