DETROIT, Mich. - No. 1 Miami fell behind early in the NCAA Frozen Four semifinal game and attempted to mount a comeback in the third period before ultimately falling 7-1 to No. 2 Boston College Thursday night at Ford Field.
The Eagles scored at 18:32 of the first period on the power play to take the 1-0 lead. They followed that with another power play goal at 2:06 of the second period. Just over a minute later at 3:08 of the second period, Boston College added another goal to take a 3-0 lead.
Miami was able to hold off the Boston College attack over the rest of the second period and killed off a penalty that went into the third period before tallying a goal at 5:19 of the third period to close the gap to 3-1. Carter Camper took a pass from Alden Hirschfeld and sent the puck back to Joe Hartman at the top of the right circle. Hartman settled the puck and fired a slapshot through traffic and into the net.
Over the next four minutes the RedHawks tried desperately to get another one past Boston College goaltender John Muse, but the Eagles transitioned and scored at 10:10 of the final period to reopen a three-goal lead, 4-1. They added another goal at 10:44 of the third to effectively end Miami's comeback bid.
Miami's season ends with a record of 29-8-7, a CCHA regular season championship, an NCAA Midwest Regional Championship and a return trip to the Frozen Four. The RedHawks were just the 25th team in college hockey history to reach the NCAA Frozen Four in back-to-back seasons. The offseason starts now as head coach Enrico Blasi and the Brotherhood prepare for another season and the road back to the Frozen Four.
