OXFORD, Ohio – Miami University head men’s golf coach Casey Lubahn announced Monday the signing of two future RedHawks to National Letters of Intent. Austin Kelly (Chatham, Ontario/Ursuline College) and Michael Lancaster (Ancaster, Ontario/Bishop Tonnos Catholic) have both decided to continue their golf careers at Miami University.
“We could not be more thrilled with the addition of Austin and Michael to our program and to our Miami Golf Family,” said Lubahn. “We are confident that the combination of academics, athletics and intangibles that each of these guys will bring to our program will enhance our culture and help us bring championships to Oxford. With the loss of four seniors in the 2010, we sought young men who had the maturity and leadership qualities necessary to have an immediate impact, and with Austin and Michael I am confident we have done that.”
Kelly has had a very successful junior year with 21 tournament victories over the past three seasons. He was recently selected to represent Team Canada at the CJGA International Junior Challenge. In 2009, he won the Chatham-Kent High School Tournament after shooting a one under par 71 and led his high school, Ursuline College, to the Southwestern Ontario Championship this past season. He has been the Lancers’ MVP the past three years.
“Austin is an extremely dedicated young man with a solid golf swing and a clear picture of what he wants to achieve in the game,” said Lubahn. “He has spent the last year improving his already impressive academics and refining his golf skills. Throughout the process, I have been impressed with his attention to detail and thoroughness. I look forward to his experience in Oxford as he focuses on helping us bring about a culture of success.”
Lancaster currently ranks 39th on the Royal Canadian Golf Association National Junior Boy’s Order of Merit. He also is 11th on the order among boys from Ontario. In 2009, he finished sixth in the RCGA Canadian Future Links Ontario Championship, as well as tied for seventh at the East Aurora International Junior Masters. While competing for Bishop Tonnos Catholic High School, he was the individual champion in all four events the team competed in during the 2009 season. He has been team MVP the past four seasons.
