OXFORD, Ohio – There is an opportunity for local fans of the Miami men’s golf team to see the team in action this week as it participates in the University of Cincinnati Invitational starting on Monday at the Traditions Golf Course in Hebron, Ky. The RedHawks will complete 36 holes on Monday, followed by one final round of 18 holes on Tuesday. The tournament action begins at 9 a.m. on both days.
Competing this week for Miami will be senior Craig Voorhees, juniors Michael Drobnick and Nathan Sutherland and freshmen Blake English and Ben Peacock. Head coach Casey Lubahn is excited for the team to participate in this week’s tournament.
"It is going to be neat for our program to compete close to home and have our staff and friends come watch us play,” said Lubahn. The tournament will feature several of the RedHawks’ closest rivals. In addition to Miami and the host Bearcats, Mid-American Conference opponents Bowling Green, Ball State and Ohio will be there, along with other area teams such as Western Kentucky, Eastern Kentucky, Northern Kentucky, Cleveland State, Wright State and Marshall.
The RedHawks are looking to improve upon last week’s 14th place finish at the Fighting Irish Gridiron Golf Classic. Despite the team’s struggles, Nathan Sutherland had a strong tournament finishing in a tie for fifth place at six over par.
"Despite last week's finish, I believe in this team and we need to keep expecting great things,” said Lubahn. Our guys have shown more determination than ever to get back to the top of the leader board, and I expect us to be there at the end of the weekend."
