REDHAWKS HEAD TO GOLDEN STATE FOR SAINT MARY'S INVITATIONAL: Miami hits the road again this week as it heads to the West Coast for the Saint Mary's Invitational, hosted by Saint Mary's College on the Poppy Hills Golf Course in Pebble Beach, Calif. Including Miami and host Saint Mary's, 16 teams are slated to compete at the tournament: Akron, California State Northridge, UC Irvine, UC Riverside, UC Santa Barbara, Gonzaga, Long Beach State, Loyola Marymount, Nebraska, Notre Dame, San Francisco, Santa Clara, Texas-Arlington, Wisconsin. Miami's line-up includes seniors Aaron Crist and Mark Robinson, junior Craig Voorhees and sophomores Michael Drobnick and Nathan Sutherland.
LAST TIME AT THE SAINT MARY'S INVITATIONAL: Miami finished in 18th place at the 2007 Saint Mary's Invitational. Then-freshman Nathan Sutherland paced the RedHawks, finishing in a tie for 36th place at 10-over par 226. Baylor captured the team title among the 18-team field, besting UAB by four strokes. Baylor's Wesley Williams earned medalist honors, firing a two-under par 214. Two RedHawks who are a part of this year's lineup for the Saint Mary's Invitational competed in last year's invitational. Sutherland and Aaron Crist both competed on the Poppy Hills Golf Course at last year's tournament.
ROBINSON AND VOORHEES JOIN THE REDHAWK LINEUP: In the third tournament of the season for the RedHawks, senior Mark Robinson and junior Craig Voorhees have earned spots in the Miami lineup for the first time this season. Robinson last competed at the 2008 MAC Championships, while Voorhees last competed in the Miami lineup at the Wolverine at Mission Inn Intercollegiate Nov. 5-6, 2007.
CRIST OFF TO STRONG START: Senior Aaron Crist has had a solid start to the 2008-09 campaign. In two tournament to open the season, he has finished among the top 15 in both and recorded his best individual finish last week at the Jim Colbert Intercollegiate, tying for seventh place to lead the RedHawks. In the opening round of the season at the Rutherford Intercollegiate, Crist fired a 69, which is the best round by a RedHawk in 2008-09. He is averaging 74.50 over six rounds.
LAST TIME OUT: Senior Aaron Crist tied for seventh place to finish the Jim Colbert Intercollegiate at eight-over par 224. He paced the RedHawks, who moved up one spot to finish in sixth place among the nine-team field at the tournament. The teams battled significant wind throughout the tournament, resulting in some higher scores tournament-wide. Host Kansas State won the tournament by a 17-stroke margin, while KSU's Mitchell Gregson captured individual medalist honors, shooting an even-par 216.

BIG BREAK X: MICHIGAN: Miami University head golf coach Casey Lubahn recently took part in a reality series called the "Big Break". The series "Big Break X: Michigan" featuring Lubahn and his wife, Rachel, will air on the Golf Channel beginning on Oct. 7, 2008.
SOPHOMORE STAPLES: Sophomores Nathan Sutherland and Michael Drobnick have been staples in the Miami lineup since arriving on campus a year ago. Sutherland has competed in every event during his Miami career, while Drobnick as played in all but two and is making his 11th straight appearance in the Miami lineup.
ALL-AMERICA SCHOLARS: Seniors Ben Wood and Ben Bastel were named Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars by the Golf Coaches Association of America. Wood majors in marketing at Miami, while Bastel majors in finance. Additionally, junior Andrew Mock was one of 16 Miami student-athletes who earned a 4.0 term GPA for the spring semester in 2008.
