Former Miami University head men's golf coach Rodger Cromer was one of three individuals inducted into the Ohio Golf Hall of Fame on Monday, Aug. 4.

Cromer spent 37 seasons guiding the Miami program, serving in the post from 1965-2001. During his tenure at Miami, Cromer was named Mid-American Conference Coach of the Year eight times and the District IV Coach of the Year three times. Under his tutelage, Miami players earned 68 all-MAC awards and were conference medalists 14 times, while garnering All-America distinction on 18 occasions. Four individuals earned All-America Scholar honors.

His teams made eight NCAA Championship appearances with the best team finishes coming in 1970 and 1998 as both teams placed 13th. Kyle Voska posted the best individual finish by a Miami player at the NCAA Championships, placing 11th at the 1998 NCAA Championships. Additionally, Maarten van den Berg brought national prominence to the program with his selection as the NCAA Division I Freshman of the Year in 1994.

Under Cromer, Miami won 10 MAC Championships, including a string of six straight titles from 1987-92.

In addition to his coaching prowess at Miami, Cromer coached the United States Collegiate Team to victory in 1997 at the US/Japan Matches, while his 1993 United States World Junior Cup Team triumphed in Japan.

Cromer also has been inducted into the Miami University (1990), Butler County (1994) and National Golf Coaches (1996) halls of fame.

Miami alumnus and former golfer Bill Phipps, who is on the Ohio Golf Hall of Fame Board of Trustees, presented Cromer for induction at the ceremony on Aug. 4. Joining Cromer in the Ohio Golf Hall of Fame Class of 2008 were Dr. Fred Balthaser and Duane "Duey" Guerin. The Ohio Golf Hall of Fame, which now has 70 inductees, was started in 1992 and boasts such golf legends Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer and Byron Nelson.
