ORLANDO – After spending their spring break practicing at two of the best golf facilities in the country, the Miami men’s golf team returns to action Monday at the Rio Pinar Invitational hosted by Central Florida. The 54-hole tournament will feature two rounds on Monday, followed by a final round on Tuesday morning.
Competing for the RedHawks this week will be senior Craig Voorhees, juniors Michael Drobnick and Nathan Sutherland and freshmen Blake English and Brett Tomfohrde. They will face a tough field that features six teams ranked in the current Golfstat top-75: North Florida, Middle Tennessee State, UT-Arlington, Wichita State, Central Florida and South Alabama. Also present are Mid-American Conference rivals Akron and Toledo.
"We are thrilled to compete in the UCF Rio Pinar Invitational after an incredible week of practice,” said head coach Casey Lubahn. “Our guys have prepared diligently all week and are excited to test themselves in competition."
The team has spent the week practicing at the Forest Creek Golf Club in Pinehurst, N.C. and at the Berkeley Hall Golf Club in Hilton Head, S.C. Miami alumni Jim Rohr and John Langhorne were instrumental in setting up the RedHawks at these spectacular facilities.
"Alums Jim Rohr and John Langhorne have greatly aided our preparation at some great golf courses this week and we have been pushing each other through qualifying,” said Lubahn. “I expect us to be tough and ready for the battle."
