FT. MYERS, Fla. – The men’s golf team concluded the fall portion of its schedule with a fifth place finish Monday at the Renaissance Invitational hosted by Xavier University. Miami shot a three under par 285 to finish the tournament at 14-under par for the event. Four different RedHawks finished under par and in the top 23.
“It was a nice way to end the fall season,” said head coach Casey Lubahn. “We didn’t play our greatest but still shot some good scores. That is the sign of a team making progress.”
Leading the way for Miami was senior Craig Voorhees. His 69 on Monday put him at seven under par for the tournament. He finished in eighth place.
“It was a great week for Craig,” said Lubahn. “He had been working very hard the last few weeks and not seeing the results to show for it. That is why it is nice to see him play so well.”
Michael Drobnick finished in a tie for 18th at three under par. Right behind him were Blake English, whose 71 Monday put him at two under par for the event (tied for 20th), and Nathan Sutherland, who finished tied for 23rd at one under par. Charlie Hendrickson finished tied for 49th at nine over par.
“Having four guys under par is a statement of where this team is going,” said Lubahn. “It is good to have some momentum going into offseason workouts.”
The RedHawks will work hard during the offseason and will hit the course again on Feb. 15, when they travel to Houston for the Rice Intercollegiate.
