BEALLSVILLE, Md.--Four RedHawks sit among the top 15 as the Miami University golf team leads the field after one round at the Georgetown Intercollegiate. Senior Aaron Crist shot a one-under par 70 on Monday and is tied for second place, just one stroke off the tournament leader.

"Two goods weeks of preparation showed in how we played today," said head coach Casey Lubahn. "The guys came here with a little more of a chip on their shoulder and a determined attitude, which was nice to see."

"AC (Aaron Crist) continues to do all the things you should see out of a senior leader," added Lubhan. "He understands how to get the ball around the golf course. And I expect big things out of our other two seniors at this tournament."

Seniors Ben Bastel and Anthony Cordes both shot 72 on Monday and sit in a tie for eighth place at one-over. Cordes battled back on the last nine, shooting a team-best 34 over the final nine holes.

"Anthony gets so much out of his game," said Lubahn. "He's not longest hitter, not straightest hitter, but he's a fighter. I saw him at the turn, and after a rough first nine, he had a look of determination. I am proud of the way he battled back."

Sophomore Nathan Sutherland shot a 73 and is tied for 14th place at two-over, while sophomore Michael Drobnick carded a 76 and is tied for 36th place at five-over.

"We set three process goals: to shoot better than 38 on each individual nine, to cut out double bogeys and to play better on par 5 holes, and for the most part we accomplished those today," said Lubahn. "This was not our best performance, but I think this is where we are as a team. We just need to show up every day ready to play."

Miami shot three-over par 287 as a team and leads second-place Richmond by four strokes, while leading William & Mary and Campbell, who are tied for third place, by eight strokes.

There are no secrets for us tomorrow," said Lubahn. "This is why we are up conditioning and working on our game at 6 a.m. five days a week, to try to put ourselves in a position to win tournaments. We just need to go through the process and see where we are at the end of the day."

St. Joseph's Jim Ridgway leads the field at two-under par 69.

Miami concludes its stint at the Georgetown Intercollegiate with Tuesday's final round.

NOTES: Due to heavy frost, one round was cancelled on Monday and the tournament shortened to 36 holes ... prior to the start of the tournament, Miami took some time to do some sightseeing ... over the weekend, the team saw the sights of Washington, D.C. such as the White House and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
