Final Results University of Cincinnati Invitational
HEBRON, Ky. – The Miami men’s golf team picked up its first victory of the 2009-10 season, winning the University of Cincinnati Invitational Tuesday. The RedHawks shot a final round 297 to win the event with a score of 25-over par. That put them four shots better than Ball State, which finished in second at 29-over par.
A lot of the credit has to go to junior Nathan Sutherland. He shot a 67 on Tuesday to finish at six under par and win the individual title by seven shots. He was the only player to finish under par for the tournament.
“It feels real great to get another victory for the Miami program,” said head coach Casey Lubahn. “Nathan really has to take a lot of the credit for the round he has as he supported the team when they struggled early today. However, I am really proud of the rest of the guys as they all had nice finishes to their rounds, overcoming those early struggles.”
“Nathan’s future is bright,” Lubahn continued. “He has a ton of ability and ever since struggling at the Minnesota tournament to begin the season, he is beginning to put the mental focus needed to take advantage of his skills.”
Michael Drobnick was the next highest RedHawk finisher, tying for 12th place at seven over par. Blake English finished in a tie for 32nd place at 12-over par. Ben Peacock was tied for 51st at 16-over par, while Craig Voorhees finished tied for 54th at 18-over par.
“It’s super important we take the confidence we gained this week into next week, which is another tournament we can win,” said Lubahn.
Miami returns to action next week at the Georgetown Intercollegiate, Oct. 19-20. The team is the defending champion there, defeating William and Mary by five strokes to take the 2008 title.
