ST. CHARLES, Mo. - It took a tremendous third-round score by Memphis to overtake Miami University's golf team at the Missouri Bluffs Challenge. The RedHawks shot 281-286-284=851 to finish at one-under as a team, but Memphis fired a 273 in the final round to finish at 10-under as a team to win the tournament, jumping two spots in the final standings. Miami finished second in the 13-team field, bettering host Missouri by four shots.

Junior Matt Thomas (Blasdell, N.Y./Orchard Park) fired rounds of 70-68-67 to finish at eight-under par 205, but Andy Shiels (Memphis) shot 65 in the final round to tie Thomas and the two were co-individual medalists. This marked Thomas' first collegiate win.

Junior Ryan Swelin (Sundre, Alberta/Sundre) ended the tournament at one-under par 212 with rounds of 68-71-73 to tie for sixth place. Freshman Connor Doherty (Woodstock, Vt./Woodstock Union) carded a 70 in Tuesday's final round to finish at three-over par 216 and tie for 13th place. Junior Rob Davidge (Oxford, Ohio/Culver Academy) finished at seven-over par 220 to tie for 29th place, while junior Mike Calkin (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles East) finished in a tie for 39th place at 10-over par 223.

This was Miami's final tournament of the fall season. The RedHawks will resume play March 4-6 at the St. Croix Collegiate Classic.

Initial results indicated that Matt Thomas had finished second after a playoff. However, there was no playoff, and Thomas tied for first place and was the co-individual medalist.
