Final Results

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - Miami junior Nathan Sutherland shot an even par 70 Tuesday in the final round of the Fighting Irish Gridiron Golf Classic to finish in a tie for fifth place. That is the highest finish by a RedHawk through the first three tournaments this season. As a team, Miami shot an 18-over par round of 298 to finish in 14th place.

Starting on the back nine of the difficult Warren Golf Course on Notre Dame's campus, Sutherland rebounded from a two-over start through his first five holes, to finish his last 13 holes with three birdies and only one bogey.

"Nate had a great round of golf," said head coach Casey Lubahn. "He fought through some early adversity in the first few holes and rebounded with a great birdie on the 16th hole to finish with a great round."

Michael Drobnick also had a nice finish to his tournament shooting a 73 to finish at 14-over par and in a tie for 32nd place. Craig Voorhees and Matt Stasiak finished tied for 69th at 24-over par, while Ben Peacock was tied for 75th at 29-over par.

"It's disappointing because we were closer to a good round yesterday," said Lubahn. "We can't do this with only two or three guys; we need four or five guys to have solid rounds if we are going to compete. We might need to mix it up a little bit and try some new lineups in practice."

Miami participates in its first local tournament of the season next week when it competes in the University of Cincinnati Invitational. The event will take place Oct. 12-13 at the Traditions Golf Club in Hebron, Ky.
