MANHATTAN, Kansas--After two rounds at the Jim Colbert Intercollegiate, Miami University's golf team sits in seventh place among the nine-team field. Shooting rounds of 75 and 77, senior Aaron Crist leads the RedHawks in 13th place at eight-over par 152.
Crist was tied for eighth place after the first round at three-over par 75. A pair of 80s from senior Ben Bastel and sophomore Michael Drobnick, an 83 by senior Ben Wood and an 84 by sophomore Nathan Sutherland left the RedHawks tied with Florida Gulf Coast for seventh place with a first-round tally of 318.
"I think we are all disappointed with how we prepared for this tournament," said Miami University head coach Casey Lubahn. "A lot of that falls on me. We didn't do a good job preparing in yesterday's practice round, or all week, and it showed."
Miami regrouped and began to battle back in the second round with all five RedHawks shooting under 80 and four of the five bettering their scores. Sutherland carded a 75 in the second round to catapult himself from 51st place to a tie for 39th place at 15-over par 159. Like Crist, Wood carded a 77 in the second round and moved into a tie for 43rd place at 16-over par 160.
Drobnick shot a78 in the second round and moved into a tie for 34th place, while Bastel recorded a 79 in the second round, remaining in a tie for 39th place at 15-over par 159.
"I thought we did a good job starting the second round, coming off that first round," remarked Lubahn. "We started to hit some quality shots and put ourselves in a position to play a better round in the afternoon."
With its 307 in Monday's afternoon round, Miami moved into sole possession of seventh place and is just one stroke behind sixth-place Oral Roberts and a mere five strokes behind fourth-place Missouri State. Host Kansas State leads the tournament with a two-round total of 593.

"For the most part, the guys all played a better round in the afternoon," continued Lubahn. "We started to do the little things right. Unfortunately, we just weren't ready from get-go. We just need to go out and play a good round tomorrow, which can start to make up for today, and I fully expect that we will be able to put together a good final round."
Miami rounds out its stint at the Jim Colbert Intercollegiate with Tuesday's final round.
