FARMINGTON, Pa.--All five RedHawks remain among the top 30 as Miami University's golf team moved into second place among the 12-team field after Monday's second round at the Rutherford Intercollegiate.

Miami held a five-stroke lead after the first round, but Purdue turned in the best team round of the tournament thus far with a 288 on Monday to take over first place. The RedHawks trail the Boilermakers by eight strokes heading into Tuesday's third and final round. Miami owns a three-stroke edge over Penn State and VCU, who are tied for third place.

"We did have some positives today," said first-year head coach Casey Lubahn. "Overall I thought we hung in there pretty well. Through the first nine holes we were in good shape, but then we started to play a little tentative, which we also did yesterday, but it really caught up with us today."

Senior Anthony Cordes led the RedHawks in the second round, firing a 75 to move into a tie for 21st place at eight-over par 152. Senior Aaron Crist continues to boast Miami's top score at two-over par 146 for the tournament, shooting 69 and 77 to sit in a tie for third place. Crist's 69 in the first round led the tournament field heading into Monday. Going into the final round, he trails Purdue's Nakarintra Ratanakul by eight strokes and Missouri's Will Hogan by five strokes.

Sophomore Nathan Sutherland carded a 77 in the second round and sits in a tie for ninth place at four-over par 148, while Michael Drobnick shot a 76 on Monday and is tied for 13th place at seven-over par 151.

"Our younger guys, Nate (Sutherland) and Michael (Drobnick), hung in there all day," remarked Lubahn. "Both seemed a little bit uncomfortable, and did a good job of fighting until the last shot. Everyone can handle the good rounds, but overall I think our guys did a good job of handling a tough round today."

Senior Ben Bastel shot a 79 on Monday and is tied for 26th place at nine-over par 153.

"The good thing is we are on the attack again," added Lubahn. "Today we seemed like we were playing not to lose instead of playing to win. On a tough course like this, eight shots can come and go in a hurry, so we have to go out with the idea of being on the attack and that we go nowhere but up."
