MAC Championships Day 3
NASHPORT, Ohio--Three RedHawks each fired a 73 in the in the fourth round on Sunday to spearhead Miami's University's golf team to its best round at the Mid-American Conference Golf Championships held at Longaberger Golf Club. The RedHawks shot 301-303-306-296=1206 to place sixth at the MAC Championships hosted by Eastern Michigan University. Three strokes separated fourth and sixth place, and a disqualification dropped the RedHawks from fourth to sixth.
Freshman Michael Drobnick paced the RedHawks, finishing in 17th place at 11-over-par 299. Drobnick shot 73-78-75-73=299 for the tournament.
Junior Ben Bastel also shot a 73 in the fourth round, his best round of the tournament. Bastel shot 78-75-77-73=303 to finish in 20th place at 15-over. Junior Ben Wood also carded a 73 in the final round for his is best round of the tournament. Wood shot 77-82-76-73=308 to finish in 28th place at 20-over.
Junior Mark Robinson also posted his best round of the tournament, carding a 77 in the fourth round for the RedHawks. For the tournament, Robinson shot 78-78-80-77=313 to tie for 37th place at 25-over.
Freshman Nathan Sutherland, who had shot a 70 in the final round and led the RedHawks through the entire tournament, was disqualified in the final round for inadvertently turning in a scorecard that had not been signed by his playing partner. Had his score counted, the RedHawks would have shot 289 in the fourth round and finished in fourth place with a four-round score of 1199.
