NASHPORT, Ohio--After two rounds at the Mid-American Conference Golf Championships at the Longaberger Golf Club, Miami University's men's golf team is tied for fifth place.

Freshmen Nathan Sutherland and Michael Drobnick paced the RedHawks in the first round, each finishing at one-over par 73 to tie for eighth place.

Four straight bogeys to round out his first nine holes left Sutherland at three-over heading into the final nine holes of the first round. Sutherland used a pair of birdies, including one on his final hole, to finish the back nine at two-under, giving him a 73 for the round.

Drobnick led the Red and White, along with junior Ben Bastel, through the first nine holes of the opening round at one-over. After he bogeyed three of his first four holes on the final nine, Drobnick sunk three straight birdies over his final five holes to finish 1-up for the round.

Junior Ben Wood carded a 77 in the first round on the par 72 course, while Bastel and junior Mark Robinson each shot 78 in the first round.

Sutherland had a strong second round, firing a 72 to lead the RedHawks. Sutherland was even over both the front and back nine of the second round and enters Saturday's third round tied for eighth place at one-over par 145.

Bastel was 1-up through the first nine in the second round and ended up carding a 75 in the second round. He sits in a tie for 26th place at nine-over par 153.

Drobnick and Robinson each carded 78 in the second round. Drobnick is tied for 19th place at seven-over par 151, while Robinson is tied for 34th place at 12-over par 156. Wood rounds out the Miami lineup, sitting in 42nd place.

Play was suspended late in the second round due to heavy rain storms, however, the second round was able to be resumed and completed on Friday evening.

The three-day, 72-hole MAC Championships continue on Saturday, May 3 with the tournaments third round. Miami tee's off beginning at 8 a.m. on Saturday morning.
