AKRON, Ohio--Entering Sunday's final round in third place, just one stroke out of second and two strokes out of first, sophomore Ben Wood made up ground over the final 18 holes of the tournament to land in a three-way tie for first place at one-under par 215.

Wood faced Stefan Wiedergruen (UNC Charlotte) and Graham Hill (Eastern Michigan) in a play-off for medalist honors at the First Energy Intercollegiate and outlasted them in a four-hole playoff to become the first Miami golfer to capture medalist honors since Matt Thomas was a co-medalist at the Missouri Bluffs Challenge in October of 2004.

Wood's performance helped lift Miami to a tie for ninth place with Western Kentucky University among the 17-team field at the First Energy Intercollegiate.

Senior Josh Dean and sophomores Aaron Crist and Ben Bastel all tied for 51st place at 14-over par 230, while freshman Andrew Aseltine tied for 69th place at 18-over par 234.

Miami will compete at the Mid-American Conference Championships May 3-5 at Medallion Golf Course in Westerville, Ohio.
