RAVENA, Ohio--Miami University's golf team posted its fourth top-three finish of the season and its second in as many weeks as the RedHawks finished third among the 12-team field at the FirstEnergy Intercollegiate on Saturday, April 26.

Miami was tied for fourth place after the first round but jumped into sole possession of third place with a solid second-round effort. The RedHawks finished four strokes behind second-place Toledo and 16 strokes behind tournament host Kent State. Miami bettered its nearest opponent, Cleveland State, by four strokes. The tournament was a six-man, 36-hole event.

Junior Ben Wood fired a 71 in the first round and followed that with a 70 in the second round to place fifth at one-over par 141 on the par 70 course. Wood improved his finish six places from his first-round standing. Cleveland State's Jacob Scott shot 69-65=134, finishing at six-under par to capture medalist honors. Three others finished in a tie for second place at even par 140.

Junior Mark Robinson shot 73 in each round to tie for 16th place at six-over par 146. After carding a 77 in the first round, junior Aaron Crist fired a 71 in the second round to catapult himself into a tie for 28th place at eight-over par 148. Freshman Nathan Sutherland also tied for 28th place, shooting 74-74=148.

Junior Ben Bastel and freshman Michael Drobnick both tied for 37th place at 10-over par 150.

The RedHawks will compete in the three-day, 72-hole Mid-American Conference Championships May 2-4. The tournament, hosted by Eastern Michigan University, will be held at Longaberger Golf Club in Nashport, Ohio. The first two rounds are slated for Friday, followed by 18 holes on Saturday and 18 holes on Sunday.
