Rio Pinar Results - 2 Rounds
ORLANDO – Thanks in part to two solid rounds from junior Nathan Sutherland, the Miami RedHawks are tied for eighth in the 18-team Rio Pinar Invitational at the end of play Monday. The RedHawks have a team total of 600 strokes, which puts them at 24-over par for the event.
Despite the success, head coach Casey Lubahn felt the team could have done even better if not for a stretch late in the first round.
“We executed decently all day long, but we didn’t get a lot out of the first round,” said Lubahn. “I’m happy that we are getting better in each round as the tournament goes on however.”
Sutherland is currently tied for eighth individually at two over par after shooting a pair of 73s on Monday. Freshman Blake English had the low score of the day for Miami, shooting a 72 in round two to put him at seven over par and tied for 40th at the tournament.
“Nathan didn’t have his best stuff, but is getting good at preparing for all situations so that he can have success even when he is not at his best,” said Lubahn.
“Blake had a really good day,” Lubahn continued. “His only stretch was where he played the last four holes of the first round at six-over par. Otherwise he was strong. He’s learning that he needs to play every hole of every round.”
With a 77 and a 74, Craig Voorhees finds himself tied with English for 40th at seven over par. Michael Drobnick is tied for 74th at 12-over par, while Brett Tomfohrde is tied for 79th at 13-over par in his collegiate debut.
The Rio Pinar Invitational concludes with the final round Tuesday morning.
